SAVING

Whilst we remain entwined in embrace,
a beneficent rain begins to fall.
Your playful jests, your gestures, and your words
glide into the reservoirs;
lips are sealed together, alkaline.
Our union converges with natural signs,
hydrodynamic phenomena.
The body is shaken to its very roots and boughs,
as the poet says.
It hoards substance for when you shall be absent
for the heavy winter of the soul,
so that memory may have means to nourish
this unbearable life with sweetness.
