ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS | TAKIS PIERRAKOS

Pierakos28

We, the alcoholics anonymous of labor,
not the Dionysian devotees of wine,
refuse our inclusion
in the class of the everywhere addicted.
It is true that we do not strike daily,
eight-hour shifts and then some,
to escape the work withdrawal syndrome ,
nor do we harm ourselves,
since it is universally acknowledged
that labor brings wealth to those who toil
and, through them, to society.
If anyone ought to rebuke us,
it is our neglected better halves
who are forced to lead a one-dimensional life
without the intoxication bestowed by play
and the life-giving alteration of mood,
through the occasional escape from the habit
of a grapeless,
without ethyl distillate,
alcoholism.
